The global comments sidebar is the central place for discussions and comments inside a Space. It behaves like a realtime chat: messages and replies appear instantly for everyone with access. You can open it anywhere in the Space, pin it so it stays visible while you work, and on small screens it overlays your content.

What the chat sidebar is

The chat sidebar enables quick, continuous collaboration without switching tools. Open it when you want to make a general comment, reply to an existing thread, or chat in realtime during a working session. Pinning keeps the conversation in view as you navigate the Space; on smaller screens it slides over the content so you can keep talking while scrolling.

Where you can comment

Comments can be added in a few places depending on context. All conversations surface in the global sidebar so they are easy to follow.

  • Sidebar (general chat): Post Space-wide messages that aren’t tied to a specific block or task.

  • On a block (contextual): Use the block’s comment trigger to keep discussion attached to the content; the thread also appears in the sidebar.

  • Inside a task: Comment directly in the task details modal; the same thread is mirrored in the sidebar (see this Article for more details).

Threads & replies

Threads keep related messages together. Your first post creates a thread; replies stack beneath it in chronological order. Newest messages appear at the bottom for predictable reading. Unread badges highlight what’s new since your last visit, and you can scroll up anytime to review history.

Use @mentions to bring the right people in and to trigger notifications (see this Article for more details).

Permissions & deletion

Comment moderation mirrors Space administration. Owners and Co-Owners can delete comments; guests/space visitors cannot. Removing a block or task removes its related comments to prevent orphaned discussion.

Visibility & access

Commenting respects Space settings. If commenting is disabled for a Space, the sidebar and comment UI are hidden. Space visitors who want to participate must enter an email before posting so they can receive replies and follow the thread later.
